He signed up already. And the 3AM is a brainfart on my part.
Should be 9AM Sunday. I hope.

I think 4 PM Pacific Time is 2 PM Hawaii Time, and 11 AM (Sunday) Japan Time. He shouldn't have any problem being around. It's quite close to the weekly Japanese Sunday morning Ranked gathering.

Re: 1st Annual Oratan.com Winter Classic
Oops, 9 AM in Japan is right. I somehow got confused trying to take into account Daylight Savings Time in Japan versus in Hawaii versus on the mainland.
Hmm, neither Japan nor Hawaii use Daylight Savings Time so Japan is always 19 hours ahead of me year-round. I have been off lately by one hour in trying to play with the Japanese players in the middle of the night in Hawaii. No wonder I keep missing them.
Now that this tournament is filling with powerhouses, is there any reason anikingVOOT hasn't joined? I see that he knows about the tournament, on his Idolmaster page.
Has Schooly figured out how the brackets are going to work, and how many players will go into it? What are the pools going to be, and how are they going to feed the brackets? With the current number of participants, perhaps 5 players per pool would work out better? And, aside from separating streamers into separate pools, I was wondering if it was a good idea to keep the remaining part of the pools random. It might not be bad idea to partially rig the pools by considering things like (probable) player skill, location, who has met before or wants to meet, VR choice, etc. It would be junk if KATENASASOSU fought Schooly D inside a pool and one of them is eliminated early.
Varryochoco can also stream, though someone would have to ask him to.
Oh yeah, what happens if there is a super laggy match, like where the frame rate gets all jerky? Or even worse, a disconnect. I suspect this will happen sometime during the tournament. Zaarock suggested long ago that when this happens you have to flip a coin or forfeit. I suggested we just have to fight it out no matter what. Sometimes there are really bad temporary lags where it gets so jerky, that afterwards you have no control over your VR for 1 whole second (it stays stuck moving according to what you were last holding 5 seconds ago).

I've updated the OP with a link to the Discord (chat) server I think we should use for communication before and during the tournament
You don't need to join it right now, but the more people we have in here during the tournament, the more smoothly things should go.

Re: 1st Annual Oratan.com Winter Classic
I don't have a PC next to my Xbox 360, so I've rarely watched live videos of tournaments in the past (my connection has high bandwidth, but all the streaming sites have horrible bandwidth to Hawaii). I'll probably pass on joining Discord. I'll just be a follower peon during the tournament.
In the conversation where Soyoka was convincing KATENASASOSU to join the tournament, he also keeps saying something about Seabass Panzer and revenge, but I can't understand it. I've never seen Seabass Hunter join any tournament, even a Japanese one. If he joins this one we are all doomed.

That's just what the japanese tournaments do. They also have connection check before actual matches (usually just on force though, where lag spikes can be super bad if they happen). Anyway it's a difficult question since something like this can happen without any control. And the loss of rhythm is going to be in advantage of one player or the other. It's also very possible for xbox live to crap out and cause disconnect/inability to spectate/party crash.Porcupine wrote:Oh yeah, what happens if there is a super laggy match, like where the frame rate gets all jerky? The tournament is in the middle of the night for me (2am to 5am?) so I'll sleep before it. Might be away while you guys are discussing details.
I think the seabasshunter thing is just him saying something about katena. Aniking seems to be focusing on some gundam game nowadays. Funnily I think TASUKETE ERINNN would be very strong in this tournament because of the american rules. He counterpicks and uses every VR which is why some jp players dont like him. But that gives a big advantage over character specialists since VR switching is allowed.

I used to know how to play this game, I swear. ggs everyone.
If any of you are within driving distance from Orlando, you might want to make time for CEO 2016. They have an arcade room and last year they had a VO:OM machine that had a line of players on it throughout the whole weekend. If they bring it back it'd be nice to meet-up.

Thanks everyone for showing up and playing! I had a lot of fun organizing and playing some great games against y'all. MentholMoose's bull run through the lower bracket will be something I tell my children about someday, and I've got some ideas for how to make the 2016 Oratan.com Summer Slam even better

Re: 1st Annual Oratan.com Winter Classic
Congratulations to KATENASASOSU, I think he has wanted to win a tournament for a while. He crushed us pretty easily but I think he is very happy anyways.
The tournament bracket was set up perfectly for me, but I blew it. Congratulations to PhantomPhotonX, who continued to play as well as he did the other day. Schooly D did well against KATENASASOSU considering how little familiarity he has against Bal.
Looks like Schooly is planning to battle again this summer, but I propose we also have a mini-event in 2~4 weeks while we still have peoples' attention. We want everyone to get better, not just the active group. I'll make another thread where we can vote on either having a Tower Challenge, or a Team Battle. I think we need the rare people, especially Schooly, for either to happen though.
